Safety & Loss Control
Many companies provide safety services, but ERNWest focuses on loss control services because it combines both safety, as well as, containing the cost of injuries after they occur. Our experienced staff spends the majority of their time on the road working with our clients one-on-one. The primary goal of our loss control services are to reduce our clients’ costs by providing them with assistance that is effective, understandable and easy to put in place.
- Quarterly Risk Management Workshops - every January, April, July and October ERNWest conducts free risk management workshops in nine locations throughout the State of Washington. The workshops are two hours in length and cover claim management, safety and general management topics. Topics include: Accident Investigations, Safety Committees, Basic Claims Management, Hiring Practices etc.
- Safety Committee Facilitation - one of the first steps in developing a safety culture is for a company to have an effective Safety Committee. When properly trained and utilized, these members add significantly to the company’s safety-related “eyes and ears”. ERNWest loss control staff work diligently to make safety committees important, effective and rewarding.
- Safety Audits/Location Walk-Throughs - our loss control managers are available to our clients for business location walk-throughs and safety audits with the location manager and/or safety committee chair. Upon completion our loss control managers will provide our client with a report that prioritizes the findings, offers recommendations to address identified safety issue(s) and an offer to help with the implementation of the identified solutions.
- Specific or On-site Risk Management Training - in addition to quarterly risk management workshops, upon request ERNWest provides training to managers and/or employees on risk management topics including: importance of reporting all work-related incidents, managing transitional modified duty, conducting an accident investigations, back safety, fall protection, OSHA 10 hour†, and OSHA 30 hour†.
- Accident Prevention Programs - most employers in Washington are required to have an accident prevention program (APP). ERNWest has complete programs for many industries as well as tips to successfully implement a program including sample policies, forms and procedures. We can also help implement inexpensive add-ons to your current program, like a safety incentive program.
- Accident Trend Analysis - if a company can identify and prevent its two most frequent types of injuries and its two most severe injuries it’s injury and workers’ compensation rates would be dramatically reduced. Our staff is skilled at performing detailed analyses to identify the trends and solutions tailored to a company or industry.
- Injury Prevention Research - For various job tasks we offer recommendations for safety equipment, such as, cut-proof gloves, safety knives, fall protection, anti-slip shoes, etc. We have also analyzed kitchen equipment, such as, bagel slicers, to find which one performed the task, minimized exposure to the blade and was the most comfortable for employees to operate.
- Accident Investigation & Reporting - One of the best ways to reduce the cost of claims is for employers to investigate and report incidents and near-misses as quickly as possible. Our staff can assist your company with developing accident reporting procedures and training on how to conduct an effective accident investigation.
