GRIP 2017-2022 Injury Data

Falls are Costly

The GRIP Retro group continues to see falls as one of the costliest, but preventable, injury types within the program. Over the past five years, falls have accounted for over $24 million in workers compensation costs. Here are data points from the 5-year fall review.

  • Falls to lower level and falls on same level make up 30% of the overall claim costs for the GRIP program.
  • Ladders are the biggest cause for falls to lower level.
  • On average, falls cost GRIP members $17K per incident.
  • Laborers and Carpenters have the highest fall to lower level claim count; however, roofers have the highest average claim cost due to the severity of falls.
  • Data reflects majority of falls are from new employees less than 1-year, working Monday mornings.
